Ray, Freddo and Will, my friendly “early morning stalkers”

Sticking my sleepy head out of the tent early morning 6am to find a bush, I was surprised to see a “visitor” already waiting in front of my tent…Will, a local kayaker and boat builder from Sandy Beach was waiting for me to raise and shine!

Planned destination for today was Woolgoolga.

On passing Coff’s Harbour, it looked inviting to go in, and I tried to give Henry van der Kolk’s brother a call living there, as he held some neoprene cuffs for me I forgot in Terrigal at Henry’s place.

What a lust to paddle today! Feeling well rested after NO internet and phone acces last night, fell asleep at 8.30 pm alst night. Moderate following winds, low seas, waves in the right distance…if I would have had an empty boat, I would have done 100 km and more. But the boat is still heavy, and surfing costs energy. Still a great paddling day!

Day 35, Saturday, 21.02.2009

This day was all about a unattendent floating kayak in the harbour, an encounter with local paddlers and a lifesaving crew baot, a bird landing on my kayak and paddle, heavy thunderstorms with a cyclone, and a kayak taking revenge at night and throwing me out at the landing, and getting food served in the tent by locals :-))
But you have to read the full story in the next Sea Kayaker Magazine issue!!!

Destination Crowdy Head – I noted on my map „fishing harbour“, but haven’t had that really on my mind when I came around the headland…so the pleasure was great to see an easy landing inside a quite developed little harbour. Plenty of dolphins were playing in the lagoon besides the harbour. Beautiful!
