Day 316, Sunday, 29.11.2009

Posted by Freya on November 29, 2009

It was another day off with lots of rest, food and internet work. Thanks again to Bill and Jill Wray still taking good care of me!

We got up early and drove to the beach, ready to go. Sniffing into the still 20-30 kn headwinds (forecast for the day 15-20 kn), I decided to stay another day dry, and to paddle the easier wind days Mon-Tue-Wed to Victor Harbor. Thursday Greg will be back again, and I’ll have my talk. Friday I’d be ready to tackle the Coorong.

Jill and Bill Wray, my lovely hosts in a Marion bay holiday house

I slept long and well in a “normal” bed, and spend all morning with typing updates and e-mails. The holiday house was built on high poles, and the whole house was shaking all night and the whole morning in violent storm out there. It felt like a continuous earth quake…

Day 313, Thursday, 26.11.2009

The day started with a launch through quite a single dumper on the steepish beach. I was happy the three boats were gone and didn’t watch me launching! But it went allright, not a single drop in my face…

I headed to Wedge Island, via Thistle Island on my left. This day was a reflief, calm, quiet, almost no wind.

Day 312, Wednesday, 25.11.2009

Sorry, not much to say about this day either. Like everyday’s slog, it was a headwind day again. No need and energy to go further, as I have to go via Wedge Island and Althorpe Island anyway.

I chatted to one of the three anchoring crayboats in the bay before I landed, asking them if they do have their own catch for dinner, maybe in the hope to get a bite :-)

Day 311, Tuesday, 24.11.2009

The launch from Gunyah Beach was wet through moderate surf, but it went all right.

Once out there, I set my GPS on a course towards Cape Carnot, quite an offshore paddling in a direct line. The only entertainment was to count the 32 windmills appearing one after the other out of the hazy day, again and again, until they were all clearly countable in a row…

Freya to give a talk in Victor Harbor!

A message from Freya:

I’ll be giving a talk and Q & A session in the Yacht Club in Victuor Harbor on Dec 3rd, 7.30 pm (as I did in Perth). I’d be happy to have plenty of people join me for the evening and talk about everything you ever liked to know about me and my trip!

A donation of $10 per person to help me cover my trip expenses would be most welcome.

Day 310, Monday, 23.11.2009

I left late after I felt like I didn’t need to get up early for that short 25-km hop planned for the day. I pretended that it was my rest day…actually, yesterday should have been off and not plugging into that strong headwind.
So I fell asleep again after waking as usual at 5 am… It felt good! But as usual, waking again after too much sleep makes you feeling even more tired…
